MISSION & GOALS
Located south of Boston, Massachusetts, the SouthCoast includes the contiguous communities along interstate highway I-195 from the Rhode Island border to the Cape Cod Canal.
Undiscovered and unspoiled, the SouthCoast offers
an attractive combination of vibrant historical cities, pastoral seacoast towns and a highly
diversified population of more than 360,000.
In addition to a plentiful, skilled and highly
productive workforce, SouthCoast has numerous attractive, affordable business parks; low
housing costs; pro-business communities; and generous tax, training and financing incentives.

Many life science and medical device businesses
have also chosen to grow and thrive in the region, creating a vibrant industry cluster
including such companies as Avant Immunotherapeutics, Five Star Surgical, Morgan Advanced
Ceramics, Apex Surgical, Medi-Tech, Natural Pharmaceuticals, Paricon Technologies, Quantum
Catalytics and Coast-to-Coast Medical, Inc., among others.
Three of the nation’s foremost centers for
biotechnological and medical technology products, Boston, Worcester and Providence, surround
the SouthCoast.
The SCDP has expanded strategic alliances with
the Massachusetts Medical Device Industry Council (Mass MEDIC) and the Massachusetts
Biotechnology Council (MBC) to attract additional life science and medical device
industries.
SouthCoast offers the life science and medical
device industries outstanding research facilities and incubator programs. The Advanced
Technology & Manufacturing Center (ATMC), a University of Massachusetts Dartmouth facility
specifically designed to accommodate technology-based businesses, contains state-of-the-art
on-site laboratories and is entirely wet lab capable.
The Quest Center, an innovative incubator program
focused on marine science technology, links companies with the research and development
facilities of UMass Dartmouth’s School for Marine Science and Technology (SMAST). The Quest
Center provides hands-on management assistance, guidance to access financing for angel/venture
funding or loans, and access to business and technical support services.
